Travel Experience on Khajuraho
Written by worldtraveler on May 21st, 2009
Last weekend we got the chance to visit the popular Khajuraho temple, located in the Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh. We were on the official trip. But no doubt we had full masti with our team mates. One of our friend had made the prior train reservations. And for our comfort we only had to be there on time. It was Saturday morning, we were standing at the Railway station waiting for the train to come. And it was our good luck that the train was on time and we don’t have to wait much. It was the Shatabadi Express direct to Jhansi. From Jhansi we took the taxi and reached Khajuraho.
The visit the Khajuraho exceeded all our expectations. What we saw there was truly impressive. The temples of Khajuraho are rightly called the ‘Temples of Love’. Upon reaching the destination you could see lots of guides following you. We too decided to hire a tourists guide who can provide us the proper knowledge about the temple and let us understand its historical background. He told us that the temples were built by the Chandela’s King in 950 AD to1050 AD. Shweta one of our team mate took out her handycam and remained busy covering all the major potions of the temples. The temple of Khajuraho are mainly divided into three parts -the western part, the eastern part and the southern part. But i must say every part is so amazing that it can leave you spell bounded.
The erotic carvings depicting the sexual acts are something more than than the mere pictures. Infact one could realize that these temples are the good option for the honeymoon couples. The most famous amongst all temples in Khajuraho include Chaunset Yogini Kali temple, Vishwanath temple, Nandi temple, Mahadev Temple, Chitragupta temple with the 11 headed Vishnu, Visha temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva and Lakshmana temple. These temples have been included in the World Heritage Site and the Archaeological Survey of India is making major steps for their conservation.
After the day long sightseeing, in the evening we attended the light and sound show. We enjoyed the cultural performance by the local villagers. The most impressive part was the voice over on the history of Khajuraho by the film star Amitabh Bachan.
At the end of the day we were all tired, so we decided to go back Delhi and take rest as from Monday we had to again join back the office on time.
